As I worked on this quilt, I thought about God, the master designer, creator, and artist whose creative power and work surrounds us and inspires all we do. I thought about how God, on the second day, spoke into being a backdrop of earth and sky from a great void. I thought about how each flower and tree, each bird and animal, is unique and, like the tiniest snowflake, distinguishable from the others of its kind. I thought about how God could have just as easily created everything with straight lines and sharp angles that express His purity and strength, but instead He created all nature with lines that curve and twine emphasizing His compassion and love.
The quilt that i am working on is a labor of love for my daughter. She has decorated her new apartment with a beach theme. My hope is that she will remember my love for her when she sees the quilt. The Bible speaks of God's intention in His design of the universe in Romans 1:20:
Since earliest times men have seen the earth and sky and all God made, and have known of his existence and great eternal power. So they will have no excuse when they stand before God at Judgment Day.
When we see beauty in nature, it should remind us of our Father's love for us.
