Crape myrtles love the sun. Even an hour a day of shade will compromise flowering. They can tolerate heat and still produce huge clusters of lacy, ruffled flowers that adorn many yards in this small town. The flowers are breathtaking in dazzling shades of pink and purple and red and even the delicate snow white. After withstanding the intense, suffocating Texas summer heat, they continue to reward us with brilliant leaf colors in the fall.
I am thankful for a God who loves beauty and created plants with the vigor to tolerate the seemingly impossible. Even more, I am thankful that he cares for us and watches over us when we go through seasons of intense physical or emotional pain. Within us, He plants His Holy Spirit who gives us the strength and mettle to endure life’s most brutal attacks. Planted in Him and His Word, we grow in spiritual beauty and become a blessing to those around us. We do not wilt. We do not wither.
Thank you, Lord!
