Have you ever noticed that God likes to tie things up neatly and leave no loose ends? I noticed that as I began reading Matthew. In the first two chapters, Matthew makes special note of 5 previously unfulfilled Old Testament prophecies that were fulfilled by Jesus’ birth. No loose ends.
John begins his account of Jesus’ birth with the words “In the beginning” just like in Genesis to remind us that God was beginning a new relationship with humans through His Son. Then in the last book of the Bible, Revelation, in the last two chapters, God reveals a new heaven and a new earth. Many loose ends will be tied up at the end of the world. Here are a few:
In the beginning: At the end of this age:
The sun was created The sun is not needed.
Sin entered the human race. Sin is banished.
Tears were shed. No more tears.
Paradise was lost. The earth is made new.
People died. Believers live forever with God.
God is working out every detail, and the universe runs according to His detailed plan. He even plans for each human, just as the psalmist writes in Psalm 139: 16:
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Each moment was laid out
Before a single day had passed.
It is comforting to know that even when my life seems chaotic, God is still working out His plan, down to the last detail.
