On the way home, I thought that this situation was a lot like life. You're doing the things you have to do, disturbing no one, when all of a sudden you get hit with something bad and bigger than you thought possible. You feel discouraged because you have done nothing to bring on this trouble. You are unsure what to do to fix it. You don't seem to have the tools, know-how, or resources to fix it yourself. I've been there. I know you have, too.
Job said in chapter 14, verse 1, "We are all human beings. Our life is short and full of trouble." We know we can always bring our troubles to The Lord. God has provided for days like this. When we need some encouragement, He provides it through someone who is listening to the Holy Spirit's urging. Someone comes along who knows what to do and what to say to help and cheer us. Someone who is willing to be an encourager in answer to God's call.
I have been thinking a lot about Bible encouragers, like Barnabas, Paul, and Philip, lately. I think we are all called to be encouragers:
1 Thessalonians 5:11 So encourage each other and help each other grow stronger in faith, just as you are already doing.
This week, I began a Facebook page to collect and share encouraging ideas. Every day, I am posting one or more creative ways that you can answer God's call and encourage family members, friends, church members, co-workers, neighbors, and many others. The address is https://www.Facebook.com/exercisingencouragement. I hope you will stop by and take a look. Life is hard. We all need encouragement.
